Walt Frazier, known as Clyde because of his smooth play, gave rhythm to the championship Knicks teams of 1970 and 1973. Frazier, a 1986 Hall of Fame inductee, had 36 points and 19 assists in the 1970 Game 7 final against the Lakers.

THE KNICKS. A Charter member of the NBA, the knickerbockers played their first game on November 1, 1946, beating the Toronto Huskies 68-66. By the 1950-51 season, the Knicks had reached the NBA Finals. They would get to the Finals again in 1952 and 1953 but would not win the championship until the 1969-70 season. The stars of the 1950's teams included Dick McGuire, Carl Braun, Harry Gallatin, and the popular Nat "Sweetwater" Clifton. A former Harlem Gobletrotter, Clifton is credited as the first African-American to sign an NBA contract.
