"I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered. My life is my own... I am not a number. I am a free man."
The Village is the setting for my home page and, coincidentally, the greatest science-fiction television show ever, "The Prisoner", which aired in the UK from 1967-68. In "The Prisoner", starring Patrick McGoohan, a secret agent resigns his job at the intelligence agency. He is disabled by a gaseous chemical and awakens in The Village, a strange community full of submissive people. No one in The Village has a name (only a number). The powers that be use a variety of tactics as they try to force Number 6 to reveal the reason he resigned. "The Prisoner" can be interpreted as an allegory stressing the need for individuality in a society which strives for conformity.
