MVP BASEBALL 2007 COMING BACK!!! sorta
A main developer of the MVP series is going to the mlb 2k whatever series!
quote: http://sports.ign.com/articles/737/737995p1.html
The offseason is where championships are built. It's where teams can make that one acquisition that puts them over the top. And while much is
made over the signings of prospects at the Major League level, what's often overlooked in the world of videogames is the roster of producers and
designers. The people who make the team that shape the face of the game.
In terms of baseball videogames, 2K Sports may have just made a Carlos Beltran-like signing.
Ben Brinkman, the lead gameplay designer from EA's MVP series has jumped teams, signing with Kush Games to help re-create, re-shape, and
re-think the MLB 2K franchise, beginning with 2K7.
"When I was interviewing for the job at Kush to run the MLB 2K franchise, they asked me: 'What did you like about the game, what
didn't you like about the game?' My answer was I liked most of the stuff you guys did, what I didn't like is that you guys only did
it most of the way," Brinkman said with a laugh as he met with reporters before the recent Game 3, Twins/A's, Marco Scutaro
(Oakland's answer to Mark Lemke) trademark performance. "I didn't feel like a lot of the stuff was done, polished, tuned the way it
should be, and that was something that I look at, something that if you build the game properly, you have plenty of time to do that stuff at the end,
and that's actually what we're doing now. For example, the precision pitching, cool idea, but it looked like it only got about 75% of the
way there. There were about two or three little things they could've done which we're doing this year, and I won't get into too much
detail, but it will take it into completion and make it a lot more fun and a lot more interactive."
Brinkman, like many baseball gamers, had his pet peeves about the 2K games. "One of them is the high hat (they all look like Fred McGriff), and
the other is the batting. Guys would swing then completely slide and then start running. They'd be looking in left field when the ball was going
to right field…stuff like that."
Brinkman joined Kush in June and has already eliminated the McGriff clones and changed the batting animations, not to mention cleaning up the throws.
"You would use the same throw everywhere. You would pick up the ball near the wall and you would use the same throw if you picked up or
barehanded a ball and were throwing from third to first."
And like the transition Brinkman witnessed from the Triple Play franchise to MVP, he realized it was time to take a step back and not add features,
but clean up the ones that are already there. Make the gameplay actually feel like you're playing a baseball simulation.
"We've gotten back down to bare basics. We're not adding a ton of bells and whistles this year, we're going to take what we
have and add some cool stuff to it. We're also going to pull stuff out that takes away from the authenticity of the game. Showboat catches come
to mind. Turbo baserunning. We're getting back to making a game that plays a really great game of baseball. It's what people want that
play baseball games. Same for people who play football games or play basketball games. Look at 2K7 basketball, that's why people love it, it
plays a real good game of basketball. Same with hockey. That's what we're trying to do. Those are our models. We're looking at those
and seeing what they do, and it's simple stuff, play a good game of baseball."
The focus is finally back on the diamond.
"First year, drill down to the core and get the core baseball game going," Brinkman said. "Year two, add some cool features, maybe
some tersely modes, maybe redesign franchise. The third year, just wrap it up into a nice bow and nail it. We hope to nail it every year, obviously,
with everything we do, but we looked at High Heat, even going as far back as Baseball Stars. I play games, and I think that's a big difference
that wasn't on the team last year. I play the game three, four hours a day. I sit there and if stuff isn't working, it gets fixed
immediately. I was told last year that because of the hardware transition, they didn't get the game up and running until super late, so they
never had a chance to play the game and work this stuff out. They got it running and then had a little bit of time to tune and bug fix and try to get
it out the door. Fortunately, we've had the game running every day this year and as stuff is getting implemented, tune it and bug fix along the
way to get to a point where we just hit Alpha a couple of weeks ago and now we can just tune and we can bug fix the items we need to fix. We're
not adding a bunch of features after Alpha, that gets teams in trouble."
I asked Brinkman just how much of the game has been re-written from scratch and his answer was surprising.
"Gameplay, if you play the two side by side, it should be a dramatically different experience. We've added thousands of new animations.
All new pitching, all new hitting, all new throwing, all new catching, all new tagging. The locomotion system last year that never really got tuned,
we've spent a lot of time figuring out what was broken and what do we need to fix to get it playing and moving right. Different stuff that they
did last year that was really cool stuff, let's harness it and make it play well. It's cliché, and you've heard it a million times,
but this is the next-gen baseball experience. All the stadiums redone, all the player models redone, faces redone. We've got accessories coming
out our ass, no pun intended. Hats, all new hats, that was my one thing. We have to do hats. I'm tired of everyone wearing the same hat. So
we'll have the crooked hat, the really firm bill, the sweat, the Derek Lowe sweat ring around the hat. Just little stuff like that. I
don't want to get into it too much, but we really want to represent the game we're going to see today as closely and as authentically as
possible. Baseball gamers want a game that plays well and represents baseball the way it looks and the way it plays."
And Brinkman knows the pressure is on to produce as word is Major League Baseball wasn't too happy with the quality of the game, or the
direction the series was headed.
"We're not going to repeat that," Brinkman says as he feels the pain of gamers who purchased 2K6. "I think we're going
to get one more chance at this and we can't come out weak this year. We have to come out strong. That's our whole goal, our driving
force."
"All eyes are on us," Brinkman continued. "And we have to deliver or people are just going to say forget it and not buy a baseball
game. That's bad for us, you can just imagine the ramifications there going forward. The pressure is definitely on, but it's exciting to
have that pressure. Some people perform well under pressure, and I want to get our guys to realize that the heat is on. You guys had a chance last
year and now it's time to really deliver. Everyone is buying into it and everyone's really on board with it. I'm pretty pumped about
the product we're going to deliver this year."
This is the year baseball games finally go back to playing pure baseball…and it's about time.
Brinkman's right, the pressure is on. Luckily for Kush and 2K Sports, it looks like they finally signed the man who can bring them home a
winner.
hopefully this will be more like mvp then what they've been putting out

yes
Yes, MVP was a GREAT GREAt GREAT series. They wen't from Triple Play 2002 (which in my opinion was very sub par) to MVP 2003 which was awesome.
2004 was great except for LEFTY GLITCH. 2005 was amazing as well.... it is safe to say MVP was the best series for baseball, too bad people had to be
greedy and take that away and put out some of those other titles.

its too bad they have exclusive rights sold in video games....competition makes everyone consistently put out the best product possible
I'm now very hyped about mlb 2k7 tho since they brought brinkman in, it sounds like he really know whats he's talking about and hopefully
he brings alot of the mvp aspects to the 2k series
I'm still playing mvp 2005 to this day

However...
I am rather excited about this EA Sports guy going to the "enemy side." I hope they have minor league play like they did in MVP 05
becauase I'm from Rochester, NY and am a really big RED WINGS fan! Also I wish they create some minor league stadiums, I think it would be fun,
no just to play at Frontier Field(ROC) but like where the Witchita Travelers play their home games, where its real grass infield and an astroturf
outfield.

i'd like a much more elaborate farm system, a much more elaborate offseason/free agency/trade system
I wish they could kinda implement the baseball mogul game into what their working on where you have salary arbitration, players won't do so good
if you call them up too early and they're potential will sometimes go down......other players potential sometimes rises with success
i think the trades need to be more realistic, and teams have wants and needs. In 2005 in dynasty, if you had fair trades on you basically had to trade
an old expensive player for an old expensive player. Or a top prospect for a top prospect. When in reality more times then not when a big star is
dealt its to unload money and obtain a bunch of high potential prospects.
I'd also like to be able to include some incentives in a contract, bonuses for making the all star team, no trade clauses, team/player/mutual
options
in baseball mogul you can start grooming someone to play a different position in the offseason. For example if Sheffield moves from RF to 1B, you
could have him working in the offseason and his ratings would be better then they would've been.
I would like to be able to bunt balls that are outside of the strike zone. I hate playing an NL game in 2005 and all I wanna do is sacrifice and the
guy won't throw a strike. The pitchers never pull the bat back in time even if you let go off the bunt button way early.
I'd like the game to keep track of hitting streaks, and all other records. Like in Madden, they have longest field goal, longest TD Run,
etc.....It'd be cool to try and break records in a season and during careers.
If they have a hitters eye type thing I'd like the changeup to be grey instead of green so its almost like a fastball but just a small
difference.
In 2005 if you have the extreme shift on in double play situations and they hit it to the 3rd basemen playing SS, the 2nd basemen covers 2nd on the DP
instead of the SS who is right over 2nd base.
I'd like to see the bat break in multiple ways. Sometimes explode, sometimes just crack where you can tell the difference through the audio.
Sometimes hit some bloop singles into the outfield.
When your stealing 2nd it'd be nice to get an early jump instead of two steps off and you don't start the steal until when the pitcher
throws......Maybe instead of having the bases up top to see the runners, as the pitcher you could use the analog to look at the runners to keep them
close. Add vocals of "he's going" if he takes off early
Include balks if you try to pitch before the pitcher comes set.
Are there base coaches? They wouldn't do much but that'd add to the realism.
Scouting reports from international players to bring them in as free agents....
a more elaborate draft. the 2k5 draft was better then 2005, I haven't play the newest 2k6 so idk what to say about that
more animations in a big situation if a guy strikes a batter out like Kenny Rogers was doing during the playoffs. Maybe a statistic for
"emotion" when you edit the players, and maybe how good or bad they do affects their play. Like if a emotional guy hit a HR, he'd be
better in the field he'd be more confident in the next at bat and if he struckout with the bases loaded maybe his fielding temporarily goes down
5 points.

E-mail all of that to 2k6 right now. All of that is genius. Please. And add expanded rosters in September.

Yes! We need expanded rosters in september! They need to put more detailed suspensions. I fully agree with the wants/needs system Taylor was talking
about. And they need add multi team trading, like 3 team trades and 4 team trades.
The only thing that can keep me going are my 2 main motivations, proving everyone wrong, and my older brother being behind me all the way.

great idea on emotion, also they do need base coaches
but the #1 thing is the cardboard fans
in MVP 05 they were as thin as glass with about 2 different positions, and in 2K6 they were 2-dimensional and there were like only 6 kinds of fans
P.S. add hairstyles!

and another effect that could be added is the sound of the ball from the pitcher and the sound of runners stepping on a base. When your batting
against a 90mph fastball you hear the swwwwwoooooosssshhhhh of the ball as it comes to the plate.
and now on tv they have mics on the bases so if a guy sliders or they hit the bag you hear it clearly
somebody should hire me

optional minor league rehabilitation stints...say they come back from a injury and their normal rating is like 95. If they come back initially
they're at like 70 or yuo could send him to the minors to progressively upgrade that number back to normal before you put him in MLB games

stadiums
in madden you can control your staduim such as prices for tickets, food, parking, and promotions, this should be a new feature and also you should be
able to move if your team is failing finaically or rebuild as many teams do these days
salary i wise they would have the real prices for players in the game, like if arod is 25 million make him that not like 10 million
stadium affect parks like fenway and yankee stadium should be more challenging to play in
charging the mound should be a feature, maybe it could be something you have to turn on so the game won't be as violent, possible brawls which
occasionally occur
upgrading the stadium like in madden, fore instance more seats, lights, concessions, others i can't think of too
maybe the actual minor league roster not fake players
the minor league teams should play actual games as they did in mvp 05

in 2005 its close to realistic like that. I know Arod is at 24-27 million, jeter is at 18 or 19, moose is at 18, giambi is in the 20's
But I would like the contracts to be a huge deal in dynasty, where your actually dealing with the agent. Also in TRADES, if you trade a arod to
another team, I'd like to be able to pay some of arod's money when he's traded.
Like when texas traded him to the yankees he's still being paid 10 out of the 25 million by texas, so I think they should make it where in that
case he would only count 15 towards the yankees cap
maybe as a GM, your negotiating with the player and agent. If the guy wants a free hotel suite in each city maybe that knocks down the price a little.
I'd really love for contracts to be the biggest part of the game outside of the actual gameplay itself. There is so much that can be added to
contracts.
Also in the Zito case, he likes the Mets pitching coach so he may be swayed to play with the Mets. If someone wants to sign him they would need to add
alot of incentives to get him to play.
In MVP 05 it's toooooo easy to sign free agents, all you have to do is have the money. Theres no negotiation to it really

i think there needs to be a game mode like in madden 07 "Superstar Mode" where you can be the playerand go through the process of signing
deals, demanding trades, having your own workouts, this could be a great new feature in the game
